The Carolinas
The Carolinas were founded in 1663 by English Nobles. Target Residents-Residency Requirements: Plantation owners/Slave owners.
This colony was founded for economic reasons. The south was made up of wealthy farmers from Barbados, and the North was made up of poor farmers. The religion was made up of Baptists and Angelicans. They had a proprietary government, which means one or more proprietors who were given full governing power by the king. They also had Virginia Dare as an important resident, which was the first person of English Heritage to be born in the New World. The economy was in growing rice, and indigo plantations. They also grew tobacco and cotton and raised cattle because they had fertile soil and a large expanse of land. Did you know that South Carolina was the only English colony where African Americans made up most of the population?
