New York

New York was originally founded by the Dutch, but it was soon turned over to the English in 1664. It was founded for religious freedom. The predominant religion was Christian although there were people of multitudes of different religion there as well, such as Roman Catholics, French Protestants, and Jews. They did not discriminate one another based on the other's religion. The New Yorkers were mainly farmers, but they were also traders. Some important people that hailed from New York were Thomas Dongan and Richard Nicolis. New York has a massive amount of fertile soil. New York was first a proprietary colony, but it eventually became a royal colony. As long as you didn't persecute people based on their religion, you were welcome in New York. Since the colony was founded for religious freedom, the people living here were highly diversified. There was rivers and highlands, swamps, mountains and forests, and some flat plains. This contributed to them being traders and farmers. Since it was a royal colony they were directly under the king's rule.
