Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn in 1681. It was founded because the Quakers wanted religious freedom. Their religion was predominantly Protestant (Quakers), but however, people of different religions could also go there. Their main exports were wheat, corn, rye, flax, and hemp. Some important or founding documents are the 1769 Treaty With The Indians and a pamphlet written by William Penn in 1683. Some important people that hailed from Pennsylvania are William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, and James Buchanan. The colony was nicknamed the Holy ExperimentPennsylvania has a multitude of geographical features including mountains, farmland and rivers. They also had very fertile soil. Pennsylvania had assemblies and was a proprietary colony. The people who came to the colony had to be tolerant and had to pay for their own land. Target residents were people of all religions who were tolerant. Since Pennsylvania was founded as a refuge for Quakers to escape persecution,the people there were sympathetic to people of all religions who seeked refuge there. Because of all the available farmland, the people of this lots of farmers came to the area. Since they were a propriety colony, a William Penn governed over it and he was not that strict.
