Massachusetts

Massachusetts was founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims and Puritans. The Pilgrims founded it to separate from the church of England, and the Puritans founded it to reform the church of England. They mostly practiced protestant as their main religion. Because of their location, their economy mostly consisted of fishing and whaling since being so close to the water. Ship building was included because of all the forests and trees around them. William Bradford and John Winthrop were the important people of this colony. Massachusetts came up with the Mayflower Compact. Life in Massachusetts was mostly like Rhode Island, where they held town meetings. Massachusetts mostly has uplands, a peninsula, and few islands. If you really wanted your life goal to become the ultimate fisherman or to become a part of a new church, then the salty air colony of Massachusetts is the one for you. Both groups of people although they have different views, wanted freedom to do what they wished with their religion and didn't want anyone meddle with their views. The people who would come to the colony would have to be Protestant or be accepting of tolerant views, because although it is not required the Protestant influence would be felt heavily. Since there is a strong government, some people might feel oppressed and move on to start a new colony.
